Rapid and targetted road clearing staff call-out in case of environmental hazards (snow, ice, storm)
The Luxembourg road administration is responsible for civil works for the Luxembourg government. Among other tasks it must ensure the construction, modernisation and maintenance of the national road network. The Challenge In 2008, the road maintenance department looked to improve its methods in calling out personnel in case of snow alert. Until then every manager notified its team manually after inspection of regional roads (up to 25 individuals to contact by service). This operation could take several hours, especially at night or during weekends. The solution In October 2008, the road administration selected AlarmTILT, which easy to use features met their needs. Since November 2008, the northern sector is operational, representing 5 regional offices and 400 members of staff. Manuel Wirtgen, Service Supervisor for Redange region, explains: “The manager supervising the road quality, logs into AlarmTILT via the web with his access code and quickly triggers a call-out. Team members receive phone textto-speech calls, sms text messages or e-mails in a pre-defined and customisable order. They can directly acknowledge the call, the manager sees in real time on his screen who is available and who has not answered. In parallel and in the same AlarmTILT procedure, the closest regional department managers and the concerned municipalities are automatically informed, that a clearing team is on its way. This operation takes less than a minute. Every call and action is automatically saved, intervention reports are dynamically generated in pdf or Excel, containing time stamps for all calls. The analysis of these reports allow us to improve our procedures, for an optimisation of the use of our resources.”The Benefits AlarmTILT allowed the road administration services to add speed, consistency and traceability to their alert procedures. Hours of work were reduced to a few minutes. More than that, without extra efforts, additional partners such as neighbouring communities can be quickly informed. The intervention reports are generated dynamically by the system, allowing for accurate measurement of quality of service. According to Manuel Wirtgen: ”AlarmTILT has greatly contributed to improve our response time in winter, which helps to save internal costs and also to open roads faster.” |
